SPIRIT

CLEANSE

Salvia Gregii | Sage

Plants build their bodies from the carbon in the soil and air. Most carbon is converted into primary metabolites, but a delightful range of secondary metabolites are produced by plants for special purposes, such as for chemical defense or plant plant communication. When wetted, heated, or burned, those compounds are released. As fragrant vapor, many American Indian tribes use sage burning as part of their traditional spiritual and healing practices

Wellness Experience

Sage

Sage inspires the idea of cleansing. Breathing is one of the most underappreciated but most important ways that we cleanse. Let's do a breathing exercise called Bellows Breathing.

This is a vigorous breathing technique that cleanses the mind and creates a sense of mental and physical alertness. Sit or stand comfortably with a straight spine. We are going to do this for just 20 seconds. With your mouth closed, start by taking a slow, full inhalation, followed by an exhalation.

Continue to breathe comfortably to ready yourself for bellows breathing. Bellows breathing is a rapid intake of breath in and out through your nose. Follow the sound of my breath with your own. Again, we will do this for just 20 seconds. Here we go.

Now breathe normally and feel free to open your mouth. If you practice this on your own, you can gradually increase the time up to one minute. Stop if you feel lightheaded.
