The following is an overview of the courses and assignments required to complete this unit. The Unit will take you at least 2 weeks to complete, but you have up to 180 days to access and complete the Unit requirements.

Courses
- 3 hours: Includes passing the course exam (70% or higher)
- What will you learn? An overview of micronutrients and health: prevalence of use, safety, research, as well as special populations like children and pregnant women. Learn the basics for assessing multivitamins and label reading, and practice helping patients shopping in the supplements aisle. Additional information is presented to set the stage for the next three courses: Vitamins; Minerals; Common Dietary Supplements.
- 10 hours: Includes passing the course exam (70% or higher)
- What will you learn? Get a deep dive on these key vitamins: A, E, D, C, B6, B3, B12, and Folate. Each module will address the food sources, clinical uses, deficiencies, interactions and more.
- 5.25 hours: Includes passing the course exam (70% or higher)
- What will you learn? Get a deep dive on these key minerals: Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, and Zinc. Each module will address the food sources, clinical uses, deficiencies, interactions, and more.
- 6 Hours: Includes passing the course exam (70% or higher)
- What will you learn? Get a deep dive on these common dietary supplements: Coenzyme Q10, Glucosamine & Chondroitin, Melatonin, Omega 3 Fatty Acids, SAMe, and Probiotics. Each module will address dose, safety, clinical uses, adverse effects, and drug interactions.
- 5.25 hours: Includes passing the course exam (70% or higher)
- What will you learn? In this introduction you will see learn about various herbal preparations, explore label reading, quality issues, research, and safety.
- 8 hours: Includes passing the course exam (70% or higher)
- What will you learn? Explore specific botanicals in the materia medical section, and then watch video demonstrations of how to make tinctures, glycerites, decoctions, compresses, and more.
- 3.5 hours: Includes an optional Wrap-up exercise
- What will you learn? A key skill to develop is learning how to review the latest findings on integrative approaches, including botanicals and supplements. Learn from a medical librarian how to do this even online without access to an academic library of journals. Includes a number of practice activities to improve your search skills.
- 2-3 hours: Includes completion of the self-care assignment and report.
- What will you learn? If you haven't assessed your core values around health in the Orientation unit, you'll be asked to do that first then develop goals for self-care practices in areas you care about to improve your health and wellbeing.
- Self-care Assignment & Report: After two weeks of trying your self-care practices, working towards your self-care goals - return and answer the report questions.
