Nurse Practitioner Integrative Medicine Fellows Now Eligible for National Holistic Nursing Board Certification
TUCSON, Ariz. (Oct. 29, 2025) — The University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine announced today that Nurse Practitioners participating in its Integrative Medicine Fellowship may now apply the continuing education (CE) hours they earn toward national board certification in Holistic Nursing and Advanced Practice Holistic Nursing.
The recognition by the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation (AHNCC) marks a new milestone for the Center’s Integrative Medicine Fellowship, expanding national credentialing opportunities for nurse practitioners trained in integrative care.
“Nurse practitioners play a critical role in whole-person care,” shares Dr. Ann Marie Chiasson, Education Director and Director of the Fellowship at the University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. “This announcement honors their leadership and affirms integrative training as both clinically rigorous and nationally relevant.”
AHNCC recognizes the CE hours earned through the Integrative Medicine Fellowship and Integrative Medicine Fellowship Premium Alumni programs towards the CNE application criteria for the national AHNCC Certification Holistic Nursing examinations. All AHNCC examinations are nationally accredited, and ANCC Magnet recognized.
The University of Arizona Integrative Health & Lifestyle certificate program first opened the door for nurses to pursue holistic board certification. That opportunity now extends to Nurse Practitioners in the Integrative Medicine Fellowship and to Fellowship Alumni, who may apply their continuing education hours — including Premium Alumni coursework — toward AHNCC board eligibility.
Together, these programs create multiple academically rigorous pathways for registered nurses and nurse practitioners to achieve holistic board certification. As nursing continues to emphasize prevention, patient empowerment, and whole-person health, this expansion provides professional validation and positions nurse practitioners to lead integrative change across diverse clinical settings.
